Florida Volunteer Firefighters are facing there most difficult challenges to this day. Competitions to get grants to get money to help support there department on basic needs. Keeping up with national standards that change every year. Trying to keep/get volunteers that keep there department functioning. All little problems that play one big factor that Florida Volunteer fire department agencies are all struggling in.
Many agencies have been know to be faded out because they where not given enough money to keep up with there regular expenses. They sometimes have to compete/deal with the "Big dogs" (Paid Fire Departments.) Now this is only in select areas where tensions have been built and communication/relations have been torn. But do not worry that is not always the cause especially on scene.
Some people also view the Volunteer agencies to be a fake first responder and that we don't know what we are doing when we arrive on a scene. Yet we have the same training if not more then most Paid Firefighters due on the year of entrance into the department.
