Miccosukee Volunteers and there struggles
Miccosukee Volunteers have been around since the Summer of 1979! Covering more then 168 square miles of territory that has reached around the North East area of Leon County. Miccosukee Vol. Fire Rescue covers everything that is in a county Jurisdiction that is North of I-10 and Mahan Road all the way up to the Florida Georgia line. As well with everything East of Thomasville Road to the Leon/Jefferson county line that is in Leon County Jurisdiction besides Killearn Estates Neighborhood. We cover a extremally rural area of Leon County that has one of the biggest lakes and a whole lot of swamp land and open plantation.
Miccosukee Volunteers have been able to stand up to a 91% call rate to this day. Averaging anywhere from 5-18 calls per week. Any day of the week. Any time of the say (even for the toe pain at 3 in the morning.) We currently to the date of 12/1/22 have around 18 active responders which makes us one of the biggest volunteer agencies in Leon County. Three and a half stations (3 privately owned by Miccosukee Volunteers and 1 being a TFD Station that we are assigned to which that number is 11.)
Even though we are a volunteer agency also does not mean we do not see everything. There has been somethings that you may think that would never happen but they do. That's why we have the call number of 911 some people say.
